On Sunday I went to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center while Dayadevi did some artwork. It is a great museum that has five different sections. The first one I visited had many things related to William Cody, including these old maps, which help describe this great man and the time in which he lived.

The next section was devoted to the Plains Indians and included this beautiful beaded costume,

a large diorama (or diorama) that included this tepee made from buffalo hides and quite a lot of history and other information about the history of these native americans.

Next I visited the Western Art section which had many old paintings and sculptures depicting life in the old west.

This bronze and painting were interesting because the sculpture was done as a study for the painting behind it which depicts a battle scene with many horses and riders.

Here is a more lovely and peaceful bronze of an indian teaching his son to use a bow and arrow.

Here is one third of a huge painting that depicted the Battle of the Little Bighorn (also known as the battle of the Greasy Grass and Custer's Last Stand) on June 25th, 1876.

Next was an extensive collection of firearms with many displays organized by time period and manufacturer. It was sort of interesting to learn how the rifle progressed from the middle 1500s to modern times. I must admit I was pretty overwhelmed by this display by the time I left this part of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.

The final section, a great natural history museum, was much more to my liking. There were many animals portrayed in very natural surrounds and poses, including this moose (the only Moose I saw on our trip), and this Grizzly bear (fortunately the only one I saw, especially at this close range).
